Yes. All you need to do is call the MultiChoice call centre or visit the MultiChoice service centre once you have purchased the device to have it activated. The device will not work unless it has been activated.
There is no grace period for the DStv Mobile service if the account has not been paid, therefore the service will be disconnected immediately.
If you cancel your DStv Mobile service and want to resubscribe at a later stage, you will not be charged any reconnection fees. There are no reconnection fees even when your DStv account was suspended and reopened.

BlackBerry Drifta application beta 
Yes. The DStv Mobile Decoder for BlackBerry application has been released as a beta version in order for us get customer feedback to help shape the product. If you own a Drifta, you are welcome to download it to your compatible BlackBerry cellphone to try out the DStv Mobile service and give us feedback. DStv Mobile makes no warranties about the application’s performance.
A beta application is a limited release of a product with a goal of finding bugs during the development phase.

In comparison to other DStv Mobile Drifta applications, the BlackBerry beta application has different functionality and therefore a different user experience.

DStv Mobile Decoder for Android 
Android is an operating system for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers.
DStv Mobile Decoder for Android is an application that allows you to view Mobile TV on your Android device using a Drifta Mobile Decoder.
Currently the following devices are supported:

1. Ensure that your Drifta is activated.
2. Ensure that you are in a DVB-H coverage area.
3. Ensure that your Drifta is switched on.
4. Ensure that you are connected to the Internet via GSM or Wi-Fi.
5. NB: If you have previously connected to the Drifta, your phone might confuse the Drifta connection as being an Internet connection. Check your Wi-Fi network name. To do this, from the application menu:
- Select ‘Settings’
- Select ‘Wireless & Networks’
- Check the Wi-Fi name.
- If the Wi-Fi name corresponds to the SSID on the back of the Drifta, select another Wi-Fi access point that has Internet access, OR disable Wi-Fi to use GSM Internet access. To disable Wi-Fi:
- From the application menu:
- Select “Settings”
- Select ‘Wireless & networks’
- Disable Wi-Fi.
6. Launch the DStv Mobile Decoder application.
7. The application will then send a small, anonymous authentication message to DStv Mobile’s servers over the Internet. If your Android device is supported, the application will continue to load. If your Android device is not supported you will receive an error message that says “Unsupported Device”.
8. When prompted, select the SSID number that appears on the back of your Drifta device. A Wi-Fi connection between your Android device and the Drifta will then be established.
9. If you turned off your Wi-Fi in step 5 you will need to re-enable it at this point. To do this:
- Press the devices home button,
- From the application menu:
- Select “Settings”
- Select “Wireless & networks”
- Enable Wi-Fi.
10. Return to the DStv Mobile Decoder application, To do this from go to the application menu and select the DStv Mobile Decoder icon.
When accessing our service, your device will send a request through to our server over the Internet to ensure that it has been authorised to access and view our content. The request contains only the device information and no personal information.
- From the device main menu/App drawer
- Press ‘Settings’
- Press ‘Wireless and Network’
- Press ‘Wi-Fi settings’
- To turn ON the Wi-Fi, press the checkbox till you see a tick
- Choose your internet connection
NB: You might be requested to enter a password if you have one set up.
The application needs an Internet connection to reach our server. Once we have authenticated your device and approved access to our service, you don’t need Internet to view the content, until the application is launched again.
Scenario 1:
It could be that your decoder is not powered ON and you therefore need to switch it on before you try and connect it. Please switch ON your decoder and try again.
Scenario 2:
This also happens when your Drifta is password protected, and you have entered a password incorrectly to access it. Press on ‘Retry’ to re-enter the password
- Access the DStv Mobile Decoder application
- Press ‘Settings’
- Press ‘Password’
- Enter new password
- Confirm new password
- The application will restart
You just need to confirm that you are connected properly.
Force stop the application and try again. To do this, you need to:
- From the device main menu/App drawer
- Press ‘Settings’
- Press ‘Manage Applications’
- Press ‘Decoder’
- Press ‘Force Stop’
- Then restart the application
This means our server is currently unreachable or unavailable. Please try accessing the service again later.
This is a known defect and we have escalated it for resolution. You just need to wait for the channel list to load. This should take no longer than 15 seconds to load.
Our software application is subject to copyrights and content rights restrictions and therefore we need to ensure that only devices that are approved by DStv Mobile have access to our service.
Should a device be restricted from accessing our service or download our application it means that it’s not a supported device. Any attempts to alter or modify the software application may result in Multichoice taking legal action against a person doing that.
You would need to contact us at +233 302 740540 and let us know. We would also advice that you take your device to your nearest manufacture so that they can help you restore the handset and remove any unlawful alterations on the device.

Drifta 
The Drifta will enable you to watch broadcast Mobile TV and access the mobile TV guide on your PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone.
It plays the role of a decoder that recieves the DVB-H broadcast signal, converts it into Wi-Fi and relays it to Wi-Fi enabled viewing devices such as your PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone. The viewing device must have the Drifta application software installed on it for mobile TV to work.
The Drifta does not require a special SIM card to be used in your phone.
- Firstly you need to ensure that you are within the coverage area. Please visit www.dstvmobile.com to see which areas are covered in your area.
- You need to activate your Drifta with our call centre, or using the SMS shortcode service. Should the Drifta not be activated on our system, you will not be able to use it with your viewing devices.
- You need to ensure that you are using the Drifta with a compatible viewing device that meets all the minimum system requirements. Please refer to question below “Which devices does DStv Mobile support with the Drifta?”
- When activating the Drifta, we need to ensure that your Drifta is linked with your DStv account on our system. This would ensure that you are billed correctly.
- Ensure that you have downloaded the Drifta application on your viewing device.

You will need to contact the MultiChoice call centre, visit the closest MultiChoice branch in your area. When we activate your device, we will validate your DStv subscription as a Premium subscription and link it with your DStv Mobile subscription so that you do not have to pay for your DStv Mobile subscription. Please note that a Premium subscriber is only entitled to one subscription at no extra cost via the Drifta; any additional subscriptions to the DStv Mobile option will be billed the applicable subscription cost.
Subscription to the DStv Mobile package at no extra cost is valid until 31 March 2013, subject to package upgrade and downgrade rules. If a subscriber downgrades from the DStv Premium package the subscription at no extra cost will be cancelled. If a subscriber upgrades to the DStv Premium package, subscription at no extra cost will apply.

The standard resolution of the transmission is 320 X 240, and is limited to this by the bandwidth available in the DVB-H spectrum.
The DStv Mobile Drifta is designed and developed to work optimally with manufacturer approved software. Jail broken iOS devices are considered untrustworthy, and can potentially jeopardize the content security we have built into the device and application. To prevent this, the DStv Mobile application will not work on jail broken iOS devices.

An Electronic Programe Guide (EPG) lists the channels that are available on the bouquet on the TV menu – scrolling through this menu tells you what channels are available. The programme guide also displays information about the programme such as time and day, and a brief description of the programme. The programme guide will display the schedule for the current day and the following day’s viewing.
It is important that the date and time on the cellphone is correct for the programme guide. The EPG on the cellphone uses the relative date and time that the cellphone is set to in order to show the guide, if the date time is wrong, then the information is wrong.
Some of the television channels available on DStv Mobile are the same as the channels on DStv. The channels chosen to form part of the DStv Mobile premium bouquet have been chosen based on research and suitability for mobile consumption.
Yes, please re-subscribe to the service during the free period. Outside of the free service you will need to advise the MO that you require a SIM swop and your Mobile TV services should be migrated.

Only cellphones fitted with DVB-H OMA/BCAST receivers are able to access the DStv Mobile service. At present only certain ZTE and Nokia cellphones are able to receive the service. There are some Nokia cellphones that are DVB-H compliant, however they are not fitted with a receiver, but are still able to receive the signal using a Blue Tooth Device.

The cellphone will work as a standard cellphone in the country where it was purchased, but you may find it is unable to receive the DVB-H transmitter’s signal in certain areas if you travel outside the signal coverage areas.
If you are planning to travel abroad and roam, please note that the cellphone will work in all countries where your service provider has a commercial roaming agreement in place for voice, SMS and data, however the DStv Mobile service will not work on the cellphone in other countries unless the local service providers (distributing the DStv Mobile product) SIM card is inserted in the cellphone and the relevant service is requested.
- You may be in the vicinity of large structures that could obscure the signal.
- You may be in a drop-out zone. Eg: if you live in a dip with surrounding hills this could obscure the signal.
- You should try to connect more than once, sometimes a second or third attempt works.
- If you are trying to connect in an area that falls on the outskirts of a reception area; Try getting signal before you get to such a marginal reception area, then keep the TV on as you approach the area. The cellphones are better able to maintain a signal going into a marginal reception area, rather than trying to access the signal once in a marginal reception area.

OMA/BCAST stands for Open Mobile Alliance Broadcast, and is a standard way of encrypting and decrypting mobile TV content so that only authorised subscribers are able to view the content.
DVB-H, Digital Video Broadcast-Handheld, is the latest development in digital video broadcast standards. It is a mobile broadcast technology that allows for the digital terrestrial broadcast of live television and audio channels to a cellphone. It is delivered on a separate DVB-H network in selected cities and does not share the mobile network except for transport of registration information obtaining access keys and providing support.
3G (Third Generation) is a wireless mobile network technology that offers video streaming to a cellphone. It uses a mobile operator’s network and is subject to bandwidth limitations. It also offers a return or interactive path that enables you to do things like download content onto your cellphone.
DVB-H is a technology which stands for Digital Video Broadcast-Handheld. It is the latest development in digital video broadcast standards, and enables the broadcast of DStv channels to specific cellphones which have been fitted to receive the DVB-H mobile TV signal.

Did you get a confirmation message that your rights object has been received by your handset?
The handset automatically fades out the Mobile TV audio and Video and displays the number that is calling you. After the call is terminated the Video and Audio returns back to normal after a few seconds.
You will not miss any SMS messages sent to your phone while watching DStv Mobile. Your phone is programmed to notify you that a message has been sent. You are able to read the SMS message and thereafter return to viewing the service.
Only handsets fitted with DVB-H OMA/BCAST receivers are able to access the DStv Mobile service. At present only certain ZTE and Nokia handsets are able to receive the service. There are some Nokia handsets that are DVB-H compatible, others are not fitted with a receiver, but are still able to receive the signal using a Bluetooth Device called a Bluetooth Dongle. Please ensure that you upgrade to a compatible device.

The handsets have a parental guidance feature which can be controlled from the handset using a password. Customer Care 
The cellphones have a parental guidance feature which can be controlled from the cellphone using a password. If the parental guidance, (relevant age limit) has been set by the cellphone owner, all programmes, that exceed the users set parental guidance age limit, will not be viewed. The following message will be displayed on the screen:
"Parental control set. select Enter lock code from options menu to watch the programme."
You subscribe via the Mobile TV function, using the Electronic Services Guide (ESG), on the cellphone.
Although you can see "DStv Mobile" displayed on your cellphone, DStv Mobile TV is not yet commercially available in South Africa. The channels that are broadcast by MultiChoice and M-Net are part of a trial to test mobile television and are broadcast to a closed user group of trialists.
The Customer/Owner of the cellphone is responsible for its insurance.
During the offer period – no, your Mobile TV subscription will not be affected.
Once the offer period is over - Only if you are changing your SIM card, cellphone, or cellphone number will your Mobile TV subscription be affected. If any of these are changing you will need to contact the mobile operator and request that your current subscription be migrated.
During the offer period the DStv Mobile broadcast will be free and available to all subscribers with compatible cellphones. After the free period there will be a number of schemes available including both contracts, pre-paid and top-up for receiving the DStv Mobile Service.
During the offer period, you can re-subscribe to the Mobile TV service using your new cellphone and sim. It is advisable that you report your cellphone stolen in order for it to be blacklisted and the SIM card locked.
Once the offer period is over, if your cellphone is stolen, you should request your service provider to migrate your services (including your tv services) to your new SIM card.
There are many reasons for DStv Mobile selecting to go with the OMA/BCAST solution, but one of the main reasons is that it is widely supported by the larger manufacturers.
This gives the end customer a greater choice of cellphones at a wide range of prices, so that the product appeals to a larger market.
