What are the advantages of having the Drifta DStv Mobile Decoder?

The Drifta will enable you to watch broadcast Mobile TV and access the mobile TV guide on your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, PC or laptop.

What do I need to be aware of when purchasing the Drifta?

* Firstly you need to ensure that you are within the coverage area.
* Please visit the “Coverage Map” page on www.dstvmobile.com to see which areas are covered in your area.
* You need to activate your Drifta with our call centre.
* Should the Drifta not be activated on our system, you will not be able to use it with your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, PC or laptop.
* To activate your Drifta contact the Multichoice call centre on (011) 289-2222 and quote the ‘CA’ and Serial number labeled on the device.
* You need to ensure that you are using the Drifta on an iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, PC or laptop that meets all the minimum system requirements.
* When activating the Drifta, we need to ensure that your Drifta is linked with your DStv package on our system. This would ensure that you are billed correctly.
* Ensure that you have downloaded the Drifta application to your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, PC or laptop.

NOTE: Please ensure that your Drifta is not connected to your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, PC or laptop when downloading the application. Should it be connected while downloading, it will cause the application to not work with the decoder on that iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, PC or laptop

How does the Drifta work with DVB-H broadcast?

It plays the role of a decoder that receives the DVB-H broadcast signal, converts it into Wi-Fi and relays it to Wi-Fi enabled viewing devices such as your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, PC or laptop.
The viewing device must have the Drifta application software installed on it for mobile TV to work.

Do I need a special SIM card in my cell phone to use the Drifta?

The Drifta does not require a special SIM card to be used in your iPhone

How will DStv Mobile know if I am a Premium subscriber and qualify for subscription at no extra cost?

You will need to contact the MultiChoice call centre, visit the closest MultiChoice branch in your area. When we activate your device, we will validate your DStv subscription as a Premium subscription and link it with your DStv Mobile subscription so that you do not have to pay for your DStv Mobile subscription. Please note that a Premium subscriber is only entitled to one subscription at no extra cost via the Drifta; any additional subscriptions to the DStv Mobile option will be billed the applicable subscription cost. If you subscribed to DStv Mobile through your DStv Premium subscription you will get the extra channel M-Net Mobile on your DStv Mobile device.

How long will subscription at no extra cost to DStv Premium customers be valid for?

DStv Mobile is currently available at no extra subscription cost to DStv Premium subscribers in South Africa. This offer has being effective since the inception of DStv Mobile in 2010 and will continue until further notice.

The offer is reviewed annually in line with MultiChoice’s policies and should there be a need to charge DStv Premium subscribers DStv Mobile prescription, affected subscribers will be informed timeously.

Will it be DStv Mobile or my mobile operator billing me?

If you have subscribed to DStv Mobile via the Drifta, the monthly subscription fee will be billed by MultiChoice on your DStv account.

Which devices does DStv Mobile support with the Drifta?

Initially this decoder will be compatible with the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, PCs and laptops.

My PC at work meets all the system requirements but I’m still unable to access the service.

Certain corporate IT departments may prevent you from accessing certain services due to the anti-virus software and firewalls that they have in place. Please check with your IT department to see if you are allowed to access and view our service

Our IT policy prevents me from accessing DStv Mobile service; can you help me overwrite it?

Due to policies enforced by different corporate IT departments, we are unable to by-pass or even over-write these system restrictions. You will need to request access from your IT department.

Does this mean the DStv Mobile service is a threat to my system if my IT department restricts access?

DStv Mobile provides content that is secure and compliant with the regulatory requirements according to the licence agreements. However, different companies have different policies that determine which access you may or may not have while operating their systems on their network. To find out more on this, please refer to your internal IT policies.

Can I still use my Drifta anywhere else?

You are able to use it anywhere else provided that you are within the coverage area and your viewing device meets the minimum system requirements. For more information on this, visit our website on www.dstvmobile.com

Why is the picture so small on a laptop/PC?

The screen has been designed to enable use of other functionality on your device. As a result the resolution has been doubled to ensure quality visuals.

What is the resolution of the picture?

The standard resolution of the transmission is 320 X 240, and is limited to this by the bandwidth available in the DVB-H spectrum.

Can I use the Drifta on jail broken iOS devices?

The DStv Mobile Drifta is designed and developed to work optimally with manufacturer approved software. Jail broken iOS devices are considered untrustworthy, and can potentially jeopardize the content security we have built into the device and application. To prevent this, the DStv Mobile application will not work on jail broken iOS devices.

Can I record the Drifta video feed?

No. The video feed cannot be recorded as we want you to enjoy mobile entertainment on your mobile viewing device as it happens.

I got an error: “Could not detect decoder. Please ensure that the decoder is powered on and correctly connected” when trying to connect with my iPhone.

Firstly please check if your Drifta is not paired up with another device. If it’s not then check what version of software you have on your device. If your software version is iOS 4, then reset the pairing of your viewing device and the Drifta. If your software version is iOS 5, then you need to connect to Wi-Fi first before connecting with the Drifta. To check for software version, you need to:

* Press Settings
* Press General
* Press About
* Check the version of the software

How do I connect to Wi-Fi with my iPhone 4 and iPhone 3Gs?

* Ensure the devices Wi-Fi is on
* Ensure the Drifta is on
* Go to settings>Wi-Fi
* Select the Drifta device

o Please note that the icon remains as a spinner (does not change to a tick)

* Exit settings
* Start the decoder application (Note that the Drifta ID is not displayed while connecting)

How do I verify that I am connected to the correct Drifta?

* Press Settings
* Press General
* Press About
* Check that the Device ID on your phone matches the device ID on the back of your Drifta.

How do I connect to Wi-Fi with my iPad?

* Ensure the devices Wi-Fi is on
* Ensure the Drifta is ON
* Press Settings
* Press Wi-Fi
